Karel Koplimets at ISCP residency in New York
We are thrilled to announce that Karel Koplimets is currently in residence at the International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) in New York, where he is creating new work and exploring the city’s diverse art scene.
The ISCP residency provides artists with the time and space to delve into their past work, to experiment with new ideas, and to visit New York’s esteemed art institutions. Karel’s residency runs from October 1 to November 30, 2024.
Koplimets will present his practice at the upcoming ISCP Open Studios, offering visitors an opportunity to explore his recent projects and interact with the artist in person. Open Studio hours are Friday, November 15, from 6-9pm and Saturday, November 16, from 1-7pm. The ISCP Open Studios Program takes place at 1040 Metropolitan Avenue, Brooklyn, New York.
Karel Koplimets (b. 1986) is a Tallinn-based artist specializing in photo, video, and installation art. His work investigates social themes through experimental sculptural forms and innovative technical approaches. Koplimets holds a degree in Photography from the Estonian Academy of Arts (2013) and completed a post-academic course at HISK (Higher Institute for Fine Arts) in Belgium from 2020 to 2021. His recent exhibitions include Coup de Ville (Sint-Niklaas, Belgium, 2024), Videobrasil Biennial (Brazil, 2023), Trance (Tallinn Art Hall, 2023), and the solo exhibition One Is the Loneliest Number ((AV17) Gallery, Lithuania, 2022). His works are held in significant collections, including the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma (Finland), Musée de l’Elysée (Switzerland), and Kumu Art Museum (Estonia).
The International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) supports the creative development of artists and curators, and promotes exchange through residencies and public programs. ISCP is housed in a former factory building in Brooklyn, and has 35 studios, 2 galleries, and a project space. Since 2015, Marge Monko, Rael Artel, Paul Kuimet, Anu Vahtra, Laura Põld, Mia Raadik, Taavi Suisalu, and Helena Keskküla have taken part in the residency.
The residency is supported by the Estonian Contemporary Art Development Center (ECADC) and the Estonian Ministry of Culture.
