The Curatorial Program for Research CPR 2017: The Baltic Sea kicks off in Tallinn
On September 24th, eight curators participating in CPR 2017: The Baltic Sea will start their research visit in Tallinn. During a 5-day visit, curators will become acquainted with the local art field, exploring how the ideas that shape contemporary art practices are formed and produced. An intensive programme will take them to the studios of 9 contemporary artists and introduce them to local art professionals, institutions and events in Tallinn and Narva. With its wide-ranging itinerary, the research trip includes a daily academic programme curated by art historian Liisa Kaljula that covers topics from art history to Estonia’s nation-branding and contemporary digital society. The visit of CPR 2017: The Baltic Sea coincides with the Professional Week of the 4th international contemporary art biennial Tallinn Photomonth. After Estonia, the curators will continue on their research trip to Sweden, Norway and Denmark.
Organized by the Estonian Contemporary Art Development Center (ECADC) and Curatorial Program for Research (CPR), the aim of the visit is to provide in-depth knowledge and direct contact with Estonian art professionals. A jury consisting of Carmen Ferreyra, CPR Director; Karin Laansoo, Director, Estonian Contemporary Art Development Center and Outset Estonia; Susanne Ewerlöf, Curator at Fullersta Gård and Founder Verkstad Konsthall, Sweden; and Jonatan Habib Engqvist, Independent Curator and Founding Director Curatorial Residency in Stockholm (CRIS), selected the international roster of curators.
The selected participants in CPR 2017: The Baltic Sea are Agata Chinowska (Poland), Rachel Cook (USA), Inês Geraldes Cardoso (Brazil-Portugal), Samira Hashemi (Iran), Eva Riebová (Czech Republic), Ainslie Roddick (UK), Helena Santos Elorriaga (Spain) and Wong Binghao (Singapore).
The visit is supported by the Cultural Endowment of Estonia, the Estonian Ministry of Culture, European Regional Development Fund, Outset Estonia and the Estonian Contemporary Art Development Center (ECADC), European Cultural Foundation, Nordisk Kulturfond and the Spanish Embassy in Tallinn.
