Dénes Farkas participating at Armory Show 2014

On Wednesday, March 5th The Armory Show will open in New York with first-time participant Dénes Farkas, who is represented by Ani Molnár Gallery from Budapest.

Farkas’ solo presentation at the “Armory Presents” section of the fair is an installation combining two series – “Credo” and “Ars Poetica” – and a large-scale photograph. The exposition is a conceptual continuation of the artist’s previous projects, including his work for the Estonian Pavilion at the 55th Venice Biennial that stems from a book entitled “The World As I Found It” by American author Bruce Duffy. The textual starting point for “Credo” was an interview about religion by Isaac Asimov.

Farkas has been collaborating with the Budapest-based gallery since spring 2013. Between 2011 and 2014, Annamária Molnár was president of the Association of Hungarian Contemporary Art Galleries. In June 2013, the Ani Molnár Gallery received the prestigious Innovation and Creativity Award founded by F.E.A.G.A. (Federation of European Art Galleries Association) in Basel. Participation at the Armory will be a first for both the gallery and the artist.

The Armory Show is a leading contemporary art fair, with 204 participating galleries this year and 60,000 anticipated visitors over five days. In parallel with the main fair, there are also 8 satellite fairs as well as Armory Arts Week, which involves a majority of local art institutions.

Dénes Farkas’ participation at The Armory Show is supported by the Hungarian Culture Institute in New York and the Estonian Contemporary Art Development Center.
