The eighth edition of Estonian Photographic Art Fair introduces contemporary photographic art from Estonia and elsewhere
The eighth Estonian Photographic Art Fair takes place from September 29 to October 1 in Telliskivi Creative City’s Green hall. The fair opens on September 28 at 6pm.
The contemporary art fair is part of the Tallinn Photomonth biennial and presents 38 artists – 22 artists in the artists’ section of the fair and 16 artists presented by galleries and project spaces.
The very recent works by Estonian and foreign photographic artists can be viewed and acquired at the fair. There is an opportunity to get acquainted with strategies of collecting contemporary art, with the fair’s team providing individual counselling on this subject. The diverse selection provides artworks for those who are just starting their personal art collection, as well to those who wish to make additions to an already existing collection.
The fair is accompanied by a programme of guided tours in Estonian, English and Russian and an education programme for schools. There are several events in English included in the public programme, such as a panel discussion with the participating artists moderated by Hirohisa Koike (Japan), a lecture by Martin Jürgens (the Netherlands) on ‘What is (and what isn’t) a photograph today?’ and the book launch of ‘Too Good To Be Photographed’, a publication edited by Paul Paper (Lithuania).
This year, the traditional book sales-exhibition focuses on Russia. The exhibition by an artbook publishing group from Moscow, Russian Independent SelfPublished (RIS), introduces the tendencies and characteristics of Russian contemporary photographic art field. The members of the collective are introducing books at the fair as part of the public programme.
Furthermore, for the first time, the Photographic Art Fair collaborates with Outset Estonia, the largest private funding initiative to support contemporary art in Estonia. International jury invited to Tallinn will select works by Estonian photographer(s) for acquisition to public collections. Members of the jury are Shoair Mavlian (Tate Modern), Thomas Seelig (Fotomuseum Winterthur), Anu Allas (Kumu Art Museum), and Karin Laansoo (ECADC / Outset Estonia). The decision of the jury will be announced at the opening of the fair.
The fair and its events are free of charge.
Estonian Photographic Art Fair is organised by the Estonian Union of Photography Artists (FOKU) and in collaboration with the Estonian Contemporary Art Development Center (ECADC). The fair is supported by European Regional Development Fund and the Cultural Endowment of Estonia.
The works of participating artists and the expositions of galleries and project spaces can be viewed on the web.
