September 2012 Newsletter

The Estonian Contemporary Art Development Center (ECADC) is now 9 months old, and after a great New York launch in May, we’re ready to introduce several new initiatives and joint programmes in September.  We invite you to check out the inaugural edition of Tallinn Tuesdays, take part in our Gallerist Master Course, or join us at VIENNAFAIR along with prominent Estonian contemporary art collectors.

 

TALLINN TUESDAYS

 

On Tuesday, September 11th we will kick off the first edition of Tallinn Tuesdays, testing the gallery night format with five participating galleries.  You can expect various special events and openings during this night of gallery hopping while catching an unusual ride on a vintage bus navigated by Kau Academy.

 

 

VIENNA FAIR

On September 20th to 23rdVIENNAFAIR The New Contemporary, is planning to reshape the European art fair scene with an intensified focus on Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe.  An Estonian presence will be threefold in Vienna this year:  Fair participant Temnikova & Kasela Gallery will showcase the works of Kaido Ole, Sigrid Viir and Merike Estna, an impressive delegation of Estonian collectors will attend the fair, and last but not least, in cooperation with Erste Bank, Vienna Talks will zoom in on collecting in Eastern Europe.  The panel discussion “Shifting Perceptions: Baltics” will take place on Sunday, September 23rd.  Moderated by ECADC director Karin Laansoo, the panel includes National Gallery of Art in Vilnius’ Chief Curator Lolita Jablonskiene, collector Riivo Anton, and art market critic at arterritory.com Elina Zuzane.

 

 

GALLERIST MASTER COURSE

 

 

 

This fall, ECADC is producing the first Gallerist Master Course  in Tallinn, offering training for both practicing and emerging gallerists.  Under the guidance of Iain Robertson from Sotheby’s Institute of Art in London, Kendall Koppe from Kendall Koppe Gallery in Glasgow, and Edward Winkleman & Murat Orozobekov from Winkleman Gallery in New York, course participants will learn about the ins and outs of running a commercial gallery.  Three modules between September 26th and October 19th will cover the structure of the international art market and principles of gallery management.  For three selected Estonian participants, the course will conclude with an international gallery internship in early 2013. Application deadline: September 24th.

Visiting Curators Programme
ECADC has partnered with Center for Contemporary Arts, Estonia (CCA) in Tallinn to support international visiting curators and cultural producers in their research trips.  Although this programme is mostly by invitation only, please contact Maria Arusoo at  maria@cca.ee  if you would like to be considered.

 

Anna Laarits at De Appel Gallerist Programme
Anna Laarits has been admitted by an international jury to be among 10 participants for the inaugural year of the De Appel Gallerist Programme.  This new practice-oriented course will start in October 2012 in Frieze London, and, under the guidance of seasoned professionals, will follow a series of international art fairs through sessions in New York, London, Basel and Hong Kong among others.  ECADC is proud to co-sponsor Anna’s training.
